It was 1-2 for Brawn GP in dry Monza. Alguersuari started from the pit lane, so there were 19 cars at the grid. Hamilton, Sutil and Kimi had a two stop pit stop strategy, the rest of drivers had a one pit stop strategy. Hamilton stayed at the leading position at the race start. Kimi had a good start and he climbed into the second position overtaking Sutil. Kovalainen had hard tyres and Rubinho overtook Kovalainen. On the first lap also Button and Liuzzi overtook Kovalainen. Hamilton started to pull away Kimi. Sutil drove right behind Kimi like Fisichella did in Spa. The Brawn GP drivers Rubinho and Button couldn't follow Kimi and Sutil with their heavier cars. Liuzzi drove close to Brawn GP cars and he was followed by Alonso, Kovalainen, Kubica with the damaged front wing, Vettel, Heidfeld and Fisichella. On the 9th lap Kubica made the pit stop to change the damaged front wing after Kubica got black red flag because of the damaged front wing. Few laps later Kubica retired into the pits. On the 15th lap Hamilton made his first pit stop. On the 17th lap Sutil made his first pit stop. On the 19th lap Kimi made his first pit stop and rejoined ahead of Sutil and behind Hamilton. On the 26th lap Alonso made his pit stop. One lap later Kovalainen and Vettel made their pit stops. On the next two laps Brawn GP cars made their pit stops, Button was the first one of Brawn GP drivers. On the 30th lap Fisichella made his pit stop and one lap later Heidfeld made his pit stop. On the 34th lap Hamilton made his second pit stop. On the next lap both Nakajima and Trulli made their pit stops. On the 37th lap both Kimi and Sutil made their second pit stops. Kimi stayed ahead of Sutil who was right behind the Iceman. On the next lap another Toyota driver Glock made his pit stop. After the pit stops the race order was the following: Rubinho, Button, Hamilton, Kimi, Sutil, Alonso, Kovalainen, Heidfeld, Vettel and Fisichella.

Hamilton catched slowly Button and was one second behind Button when it was one lap remaining. On the last lap Hamilton lost the control of his car, spun and hit on the tyre wall. There was a lot of debris on the track. The yellow flags were waived. So it was 1-2 for Brawn GP. Kimi was the third followed by Sutil, Alonso, Kovalainen and Heidfeld. The last point finisher was Vettel who struggled with his car through the race. Fisichella's race performance was a disappointment, he was the 9th. Fisichella was followed by Nakajima and Glock.
