News - Brawn GP dominance in Monaco

It was 1-2 for Brawn GP in the sunny Monaco. Glock started from the pit lane. Both Brawn GP cars started with soft tyres. Button stayed at the leading position at the first corner. Rubinho overtook Kimi. Kimi was followed by Vettel, Massa, Rosberg, Kovalainen, Webber, Alonso and Nakajima. Button, Rubinho and Kimi pulled away Vettel. Massa, Rosberg, Kovalainen and Webber were stuck behind Vettel. On the 7th lap Massa overtook Vettel at the braking after the tunnel but drove straight the chicane and had to let Vettel overtook him. However at the same time Rosberg overtook Massa. On the 10th lap Vettel made the pitstop. After Vettel's pitstop Rosberg and Massa started to catch Kimi. Buemi drove into the back of Piquet Jr.'s Renault and both retired.

Kimi was right behind Rubinho who could not follow Button. On the 15th lap Kimi made his first pitstop. One lap later Rubinho made his first pitstop and stayed front of Kimi. Vettel retired after hitting the tyre wall at the first corner. On the 17th lap Button made his first pitstop and rejoined at the leading position. On the 18th lap Rosberg made his first pitstop. On the 20th lap Massa made his first pitstop and rejoined front of Rosberg. On the 21th lap Kovalainen made his first pitstop and stayed behind Rosberg. On the 22th lap Webber made his first pitstop and rejoined front of Rosberg. The race order was the following: Button, Rubinho, Kimi, Alonso, Massa, Webber, Rosberg, Kovalainen, Nakajima and Bourdais. Alonso, Nakajima and Bourdais had not made any pitstops. Button's leading gap was over 16 seconds.

On the 28th lap Alonso made his first pitstop and rejoined the 11th position behind Fisichella. Kubica retired into the pits due to a brakes problem. On the 35th lap Nakajima made his first pitstop and rejoined the 12th position behind Heidfeld who made his pitstop on the 42th lap. The gaps between Rubinho, Kimi and Massa remained the same. On the 50th lap Rubinho made his second pitstop and Bourdais made his pitstop. One lap later Button made his second pitstop and rejoined the second position behind Kimi who made his pitstop on the 53th lap and rejoined behind Rubinho. On the 52th lap Kovalainen hit the wall and retired. On the 56th lap both Massa and Webber made their second pitstops. The race order was the following: Button, Rubinho, Kimi, Massa, Rosberg, Webber, Alonso, Bourdais, Fisichella and Nakajima. On the 65th lap Rosberg made his second pitstop and rejoined the 7th position behind Alonso. One lap later Alonso made his second pitstop and rejoined the 7th position behind Rosberg.

The race order remained the same into the finish line so it was 1-2 for Brawn GP. The next two were Ferraris Kimi and Massa. Webber was the fifth followed by Rosberg, Alonso and Bourdais. Fisichella was the 9th followed by Glock who had overtaken Heidfeld. Hamilton was the 12th followed by Trulli and Sutil. Nakajima hit the wall two laps before the finish line and was the 15th. After the race Button had to run to the victory ceremonies because he parked his car to the wrong place. See the full results here.
