Kovalainen celebrated his first F1 victory in Hungaroring. Massa got the brilliant start and overtook both McLarens Hamilton and Kovalainen at the race start. Glock overtook Kubica and Alonso overtook Kimi. Webber was the 8th followed by Trulli who overtook Piquet Jr. Massa and Hamilton started to pull away Kovalainen. Glock drove quite close to Kovalainen. Both Alonso and Kimi drove quite close to Kubica.

On the 18th lap Massa, Kubica and Webber made theirs first pitstops. On the 19th lap Hamilton made his first pitstop. On the 20th lap Glock made his first pitstop. Glock lost few seconds due to fuel hose problem. On the 21th lap Kovalainen made his first pitstop. On the 22th lap, Alonso and Kimi made theirs first pitstops. Trulli made his first pitstop on the 23th lap and Piquet Jr. made his first pitstop on the 25th lap. After the pitstops the race order was the following: Massa, Hamilton, Kovalainen, Glock, DC, Alonso, Kimi, Piquet Jr., Trulli and Kubica. On the 29th lap, DC made his first pitstop and dropped out of point places. Several teams had problems with fuel hose. There were minor fire on Rubinho's Honda when he made his pitstop. Rubinho dropped into the last position. Also Bourdais and Nakajima had minor fire on theirs cars during theirs pitstops.

After 35 laps, Massa's lead was about four seconds. Kovalainen was already nearly 20 seconds behind Hamilton. On the 41th lap Hamilton suffered a deflated front left tyre. He drove slowly into the pits and rejoined the 9th position. On the 44th lap Massa made his second pitstop. Kovalainen led the race until he made his second pitstop on the 48th lap. Glock had made his second pitstop on the lap 47. On the 50th lap Alonso and Kubica made theirs second pitstops. On the 51th lap Kimi made his second pitstop and rejoined ahead of Alonso. Trulli made his second pitstop on the lap 53 and Piquet Jr. made his second pitstop on the lap 54. After the pitstop, the race order was the following: Massa, Kovalainen, Glock, Kimi, Alonso, Hamilton, Piquet Jr., Trulli and Kubica.

It seems that Massa would drove into the victory. However, on the lap 67 Ferrari engine blew up on the main straight. Kovalainen stayed at the leading place until the finish line, so his dream came true. Kimi drove fast laps and catched Glock three laps before the finish line. However, Kimi had to slow down because the team ordered him to do so after Massa's engine failure. Glock finished the second which was his first F1 podium place and Kimi finished the third. Hamilton catched Alonso but there was no chance to overtake the Spaniard. Piquet Jr. was the sixth followed by Trulli who fought hard with Piquet Jr. Kubica was the last point finisher. Webber was the 9th followed by Heidfeld who drove with one pitstop strategy. DC was the 11th followed by Button and Williams duo Nakajima and Rosberg. Force India's Fisichella was the 15th followed by Rubinho. The last finisher was Toro Rosso's Bourdais. The only retirements were Vettel and Sutil addition to Massa. See the full results here.
