Build a computer that is fast and cheap
Poster: Petri   Category: Pitstop   Page: 1 of 1   Rating: (1 votes)

Well I am trying to build a computer, which price is less than 1000 euros that is capable of running latest racing simulation games on full details on very high frame rates. Prices are based on product available in Finland so prices in your country might be cheaper or more expensive. As this will be kind of dream machine and I don't have 1000 euros to waste for to find out how it will perform, but I am pretty sure that this computer is more than fast enough to run any racing game available now on full details with high frame rates. The computer parts were you don't want to save your money are processor/motherboard, graphic card and monitor. Well you can always buy a very cheap monitor, but by spending some extra money for it you'll get better image quality and better refresh rates on higher resolutions. okay, lets start to build the computer. I have chosen ATX Midi Tower with silent 300W Macron power suply. It is the cheapest available, but why use extra money for a tower when it really don't make much difference what kind of tower you have. Motherboard I have chosen is MSI KT3 ULTRA VIA KT333 with DDR266/333 memory ATA133 support. We could save a quite lot money by bying a motherboard that would support only DDR266 memory, but I think the extra memory bandwidth is welcome even the higher cost of motherboard as well as memory. 256MB of DDR 333MHZ PC-2700 memory is enough for a gaming computer. Why I selected AMD XP 2000+ (1670MHz) processor for this paggage is that AMD processor are much cheaper than P4 processors and also are more faster on gaming screen. We always seem to have our hard drive full of all can of files, but most likely most of them are not used very often or not at all so 40GB IBM deskstar 120GXP with ATA 100 support is more than enough for gaming our purpose. As graphics card I selected Inno3D Tornada GeForce 4 Ti 4200 with 64MB of RAM. It is a quite cheap card, but still extremely fast for even most graphically complex games. I would get a better monitor than 17" SAMSUNG 753S 1024X768/85 HZ, but to keep the price tag under 1000 euros we have to save somewhere and monitor is the part where you can save a lot money easily. Samsung is still a good monitor so it is not that bad choise even it is a quite cheap. The cheapest Soundblaster Audigy card costs almost 100 euros so I was forced to select Sound Blaster LIVE! Player 5.1 soundcard as a soundcard for this computer. The system boosted with LG 32X/10X/40X IDE CD-RW writer you can burn all patches, game updates, etc. to CDR disks and use the free space for all your favorite games. 1,44MB disk is not usually not much needed, but if you don't have one you'll always need one immediatly. Hmmm is this system any good... I say yes it is and I would buy one like this if I was going to buy a new computer. I hope this help a little bit to build your own new computer, if not I hope you at least did have fun reading the article :)
